The mechanics of ALTERA are easy to learn, and its medieval setting is already familiar to you. More grounded in reality than fantasy games, ALTERA lets you experience every aspect of role-playing without needing to learn the extensive lore of a fictional world.
Like most role-playing games, ALTERA is budget-friendly. Unless you're the Game Master, all you need to start playing is a set of dice, a pen, and a character sheet (available for download here).
The only other requirement is a group, with one player willing to take on the role of Game Master. Playing with others is the best way to learn.
